"Failed to play test tone" problem solved, solution

"Failed to play test tone" Windows sound problem, no sound, sound driver.

Problem Solved. Verified Solution

Please try all methods one by one. If there is no sound after one method then proceed to next method. If you get sound by an earlier method then no need to try any further method :P

Method 1:

  • Open command prompt: (Click Start button -> Write cmd in search box (Search program and files), right click on cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator 
  • At prompt write: sfc /scannow and press enter
  • allow this process to finish and restart/reboot your computer.

Method 2: 
  • Open control panel
  • click on Sound icon
  • click on Speakers icon in Playback tab and select Properties in right bottom side
  • click on Enhancements tab
  • click on Disable all sound effects
  • click OK OK
  • Restart computer/laptop
Method 3:

  • Re-Install sound driver, method is given as following
  • Open control panel
  • click on Sound icon
  • click on Speakers icon in Playback tab and select Properties in right bottom side
  • In General tab select Properties in controller information box
  • click on Driver tab and click Uninstall driver
  • restart computer
  • Re-install sound driver from repair CD or find driver from your computer/laptop manufacturer website.
  • To know the motherboard model of your computer/laptop. you can use this software CPUID (http://www.cpuid.com/) click on free download and install this utility. Its very easy to check your mother board model and other computer detail through this software.
  • You can also try by right click Computer icon and select Properties, then select Support information to check model number etc.
  • Restart computer/laptop after sound driver is installed.
Method 4: 
  • Use a System Restore point to restore your system to an earlier settings when it was working fine
  • This method will not affect your documents or files in documents folders or on desktop. It will just affect windows files.
  • Right click on Computer icon, seelct Properties
  • click on System Protection
  • Click on System Restore button
  • Clcik Next on System Restore wizard and select a date/time which is suitable for you (when your sound was working fine)
  • Finish this process, computer will restart automatically.
Method 5:
  • Install latest windows updates 
Method 6: 
  • You may also check the following troubleshooting. 
  • Control Panel>Sound>Speakers>Properties>Advance Tab> Restore Defaults.
Method 7: 
  • Start --> In Search box write--> services.msc -> press enter
  • In "Services" window, select Windows Audio from the left, then right click on it and choose restart.
Method 8:
